Underwriting Corner | Water Back Up and Sump Overflow Coverage

With the recent polar vortex and extended extreme winter weather hitting the South, more insureds may be asking you about water damage coverage within a policy and additional optional coverage.  Lighthouse is pleased to offer Water Back Up and Sump Overflow Coverage as an additional optional coverage within our Louisiana and South Carolina Beacon Homeowners (HO3) programs.  The following is a summary of this additional coverage.

Water Back Up and Sump Overflow (LPIC 157 in Louisiana and LHSC 116 in South Carolina)

Coverage is for direct physical loss, not caused by negligence of any “insured” to property covered under Section I of the policy by water or water-borne material which:

  • Backs up through sewers or drains on the “residence premises”
  • Overflows or is discharged from a sump, sump pump or related equipment, even if such overflow or discharge results from mechanical breakdown
  • Coverage does not apply to direct physical loss of the sump pump or related equipment which is caused by mechanical breakdown
  • There is a special $1,000 deductible

The full forms are located on our agency website under the “Forms” button for your reference.
